The good of the majority must trump the good of the minority. It is an ultimate greater good that is strived for; upholding the code comes before personal benefit or wellbeing. Only those of goodwill and a kind, honest heart are permitted to exist within. Only those of blood relation are often permitted membership, meaning the typical way to join the ranks is by birth; however, it is not impossible for an outsider to gain admittance, even if the road to doing so is rigorously far-reaching. For example, marriage into the Kingdom is a possibility, but one could argue that path is even more difficult to acquire.
The Inner Sanctum King Gallivant The Monarch; creator, leader, and supporter of the Kingdom. His honor is to be upheld, his decrees protected devoutly. Queen Vitalia The King's chosen. The bearer of legacy and justice. Not only beauty, but power and grace. Rooks -- & -- Pillars of the community; keepers of fortitude and regimen.
The Outer Sanctum
Bishops -- & -- The keepers of society; teachers of culture and life.
Knights -- & -- Warriors and wanderers; the trusted cavalry.
Pawns -- Children and peasantry. Those with still much to learn.
The King and Queen ranks must be forfeited by their current holders in order to be obtained by any other - they cannot be challenged for directly, though they can potentially be impeached by the majority of the community if they are truly terrible. All other ranks can be challenged for and overtaken, given the right circumstance(s).

Customs
Pawns Pawn Promotion - Occurring a total of 8 times, in order for a pawn to take on a higher rank, they must complete trials and tasks - some easier than others. They may be rendered by a mentor, parent, or either the King or Queen themselves.
En Passant
Knights Outpost - Coupled with a singular Rook, a loose outpost may be formed either on the outskirts of the fief or in the midst of unmarked territory, wherein the Rook takes helm as leader and their knights are equally stratified.
Bishops Swindle - A game often played amongst the young or learning.
Zwischenzug - A strategy taught not just for battle, but life. To pose a new problem instead of the expected move of direct responding.
Rooks Chariot - The subset of an outpost; the miniature "pack" created by the commanding Rook, their fellows knights, and any accompanying bishops or pawns is referred to as a Chariot of The Kingdom.
Castling - to make an heir out of a rook. A glorious ceremony, and one often well-earned.
War Gambit - Sometimes, sacrifices must be made, or exchanges of things in order to buy time.
Desperado - When one is doomed and their fate sealed, it is best to go out with a bang than a whimper.
Zugzwang - A stall tactic - when any move will only worsen the scenario, it is best to not move at all.
King Walk - If or when The Kingdom must enter the battlefield, it is tradition for any proper King to go and fight alongside his men. This leave the Queen in charge of the Fortress, and if he falls in battle: if there is a male heir, he takes the throne; if the heir is female, the Queen will take a new King.
